Do you feel like life keeps passing you by, and you have lots you want to do, but never seem to do? Do you know you procrastinate and want to overcome this bad habit? Well, keep reading (don’t put it off, keep reading right now.)

3 Steps to Stop Procrastinating

First you need to realize you are not a born procrastinator. It’s a habit you have developed, and it’s one that can be changed. But habits typically cannot simply be eliminated, they need to be replaced by something else (a new positive habit). So the new habit you will be developing is to “take action now”.

Step 1: Make a commitment. If you want to change, you have to make a firm commitment that you WILL change and you will begin now. Write it down along with your new “Take Action Now” habit. Then commit to practicing this new habit for 30 days.

Did you write it down? Did you?

If not, stop reading – get a piece of paper – and write it down.

Step 2: The first few days are the hardest so be patient and just track yourself. Just monitor your previous habit of procrastination. If you need to workout, but never quite get there, what are you doing instead? Are you reading your email? Are you watching TV? What are the current ways you keep yourself from taking action?

Step 3: Begin taking immediate action. Now that you have a good idea of your procrastination habits, they will be easier to replace. Just practice and if you find yourself putting something off – stop it – and Take Action Now. Each time you overcome your habit of procrastination, you become stronger. Soon you will discover the satisfaction that comes from getting things done, and will also recognize the amount of effort and pain you experienced each time you put off something until later.

Take it easy on yourself. It has taken a long time to develop the habit of procrastination, and these 3 steps to stop procrastinating will work – as long as you keep on trying.

Goal setting can be a fun and engaging activity. Allow yourself to dream a bit and open your mind as you determine how to set the goals you wish to achieve.

First focus on the following three components of goal setting:

Goal setting can help you achieve your dreams.

1. Desired outcome – what exactly do you want to accomplish, be, do or have? When do you wish to achieve your goals? Be realistic about setting deadlines. (Example: It’s not practical to think you can lose 50 pounds in 2-3 weeks.)

2. Setting consistent but small tasks necessary to achieve your goals. If you break your goals down into smaller tasks you are more likely to achieve. (Example: If you set a goal to run 1 mile each day this week and 2 miles each day next week etc. you are more likely to end up being able to run a marathon, than if you want to just start by running a marathon.) Small daily efforts truly do add up to large achievements.

3. Motivation. Remind yourself of the reasons you wish to achieve your goal. If you set a strong motivator, you are more likely to reach your goals.

Then keep going until you achieve your goals. Goal setting should be an exercise of bringing into your life more of what you want. Life passes us by and will continue to do so – if you do not take advantage of goal setting, you may end up discovering time passing without achieving the things you truly want.

Take a few minutes today and start goal setting.

What exactly is time management training?

Typically, time management training will involve a range of tools and learning of new skills which can be beneficial in helping you to manage your time more effectively. You may learn about planning, goal setting, delegation, organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing.

Time management training courses can help individuals and organizations to manage their time and resources, therefore ensuring effectiveness and productivity. Business time management training can assess the way your company runs and monitor time spent. Then recommendations can be made on how to streamline efforts. Individual time management courses generally teach people skills and provide tools for the person to assess their own current management skills and implement more efficient methods.

Time management training courses are specially designed for businesses to manage both individual time as well as the time for the whole team. Prioritizing tasks is a large method taught in these courses and more effective methods of communication between team members can also be identified.

After completing the time management training, participants should be able to identify areas where they can improve productivity. They will also be able to determine potential circumstances which may hinder progression and how to avoid or limit these circumstances.

Key elements for successful time management training courses include:

Identify time constraints and possible solutions

Determining time value and ways to save time

Discovering how to spend time on most important and profitable activities.

Organization and maximizing productivity.

Delegating tasks and determining which activities to say “no” to.

Prioritizing and valuing urgent, important and unimportant tasks

Setting and managing goals

What should I look for in effective time management training?

There are many time management training courses and providers available. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways to find good training in your area. Make sure to research credentials and qualifications from any trainer to determine if their background and training will fit your particular needs. You may also request client testimonials and case studies from a provider. With the number of training programs available, prices can vary widely as well as the amount of time spent in the training. Making a list of the things you wish to accomplish from your time management training will also help guide you to the provider who can best fit your desired outcome.
